For you to understand how and why I began my client and teaching practice, I need to begin with being a young single mother and applying “on a whim: for state school in New York, and then graduating first in my college class. My son and I then moved to Ithaca, N.Y., so I could pursue a degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Cornell University (on a partial scholarship); and my son could attend a progressive school for gifted children. We loved Ithaca and we loved school!
After graduation, we moved to Albany, New York where I applied for a job assisting in an intervention program for court-mandated and school-recommended juvenile delinquent and behavioral difficulties youth. When I went through the interview process, the board hired me as the director of the program and told the PhD art therapist that he could work for me … Wow! I received quite an education working with those kids and running a program.
In a divinely orchestrated move, I eventually came to Colorado in 1984, taking my first Reiki (gentle hands-on healing class) in 1986 again on “a whim” and my first class toward being a licensed coach in 1987. My coaching training included four years of study, in addition to my undergraduate degree from Cornell. And in 2012, I completed another Master’s Degree in Engaged Humanities with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
In January of 1986, I began seeing Reiki clients, renting small spaces on a time by time basis and my first “real” office space was on the frontage road of Rt. 285 just east of Wadsworth. You can see it in the photo above – were you ever there? if so message me!
My first Reiki class was taught in 1990 and in 1991 I was licensed as a spiritual / life coach. Reiki has been a mainstay throughout my professional practice – isn’t it remarkable how a whim turns into a lifetime pursuit. In my 28 years as a Reiki teacher, I’ve trained many in this ancient art – including Reiki Masters who are also doing good work sharing Reiki. My coaching practice took a turn several years ago when I observed that the most powerful work I did with clients was in helping them to identify and heal their deepest wounds, so they could release what was holding them back.
Our ultimate pursuit was for them to embrace
their wildest success and their sweetest happiness.
I continue to hold this vision.
My first Reiki class in 1990. I still love teaching this ancient stress-reducing and healing art.
So spiritually expansive….
Know that I appreciate each one of you: each client, each student, each friend. You are the ones that have made it possible for a lifetime of personal focus in healing, enrichment and empowerment. What a grand adventure it has been! …. Stay tuned in for brief (and fun) snippets of what it’s been like though the years … we’ve had so many great times – in classes, workshops, retreats. Sensational!
